Terms and Conditions

  1. Girls in Power (GIP) is a multi-day event that aims to provide 30 Year 9 & 10 female students the opportunity to experience a range of careers in the renewable energy industry.
  2. The experience that participants will have includes group activities, touring renewable energy industries and other businesses relevant to the focus of the event.
  3. The event will commence on Tuesday 30 May at 8.45 am and conclude on Thursday 1 June at 3.30 pm.
  4. Students will be required to complete an expression of interest by writing on the GIP web page www.girlsinpower.com.au describing why they would like to participate.
  5. This event is open to all northern Tasmania* Year 9 and 10 students who identify as female. (check).  
  6. Students from public, private, independent, E-school and home school are all eligible to apply.
  7. Teacher supervision will be required and teacher-to-student ratios will be as prescribed by the school.
  8. Some funding is available to support the payment of relief teachers.
  9. Students are expected to abide by their school's code of conduct while participating in this event.
  10. The event is free for students and teachers to attend; however, students and teachers must find their own way to the opening event on the first day and find their own way home on the last day of the event.
  11. Buses will be provided to transport students to and from events over the three days.
  12. Students will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during industry tours, and this may include a helmet, eye protection, safety vest and hearing protection (provided by the event organisers).  Students should bring closed-in shoes to wear, such as sneakers or boots (flat soled) or safety boots.  See the FAQs for more information on what to wear.
  13. The assessment of applications will be carried out by Hydro Tasmania’s Education Team and based on the following criteria:
    1. Level of effort
    2. Prescribed level of interest
    3. Creativity
    4. Overcome personal challenges, diversity
    5. Feeling unsure about career options
  14. Assessors will ensure that students are selected from a wide range of schools in northern Tasmania.
  15. Information contained in entries is for internal purposes only and will not be published or used for promotional purposes.
  16. Students will require their parents/carers to provide permission for their child to attend the event and give consent to Hydro Tasmania, Entura, TasNetworks, Goldwind, UPC Renewables for photos and videos taken during the event to be used for promotional purposes on social media, company websites and newsletters and media promotional purposes (include Communities Tasmania who has provided funding for this event).
  17. A risk assessment will be provided to successful applicants’ schools.
  18. Successful applicants will be required to complete a registration form.  This must be completed and returned to confirm their participation in the event.
  19. Supervision during the event will be provided by the teachers from the Department of Education, Catholic Education Tasmania, Independent Schools and Hydro Tasmania staff.  Supervision at the conclusion of each day of the event will be provided by teachers only.
  20. Participants in this event agree to provide a pre- and post-event evaluation and completing a short survey at the completion of Year 9 or Year 10, Year 11 and Year 12 that will seek the following information:
    1. Has the GIP event influenced your subject choices?
    2. Has the GIP event helped you decide on a career pathway?
    3. Are you pursuing a non-traditional female career pathway? (use descriptors).
    4. Are you pursuing a career in the renewable energy industry?
    5. Would you benefit from more work exposure opportunities in the renewable energy industry?
